What Temperature Should I Set My Thermostat in the Summer?

Save Money and Stay Cool by Following These Recommended Summer Settings

Air conditioning offers the best escape from the summer heat, but settling on a temperature to maintain in your home may require a balance between your family's comfort preferences and your financial bottom line. Simply put – the lower you set your thermostat in the summer, the higher your energy bills will be. However, if you work through some of the variables you can shoot for a temperature that keeps you comfortable and saves you money.

The Best Temperature Settings When You're at Home

To stay comfortable and save money this summer, the U.S. Department of Energy recommends setting your thermostat to 78F (26C) when you are home. Setting your air conditioner to this level will allow you to stay cool and avoid an unusually high electricity bill. If you still find yourself looking for more cooling relief and not the energy savings aspect then lower the temperature.

HELP! MY AIR CONDITIONER IS FROZEN!

What to do if my AC unit is Frozen

1. Turn OFF your AC unit
First, switch your thermostat to the OFF position and turn your fan to ON.
Next locate the Breaker for the outside unit and turn it off.
2.Check your filter
A dirty filter could be the cause of this AC not cooling issue. Your air filter might be inside the air handler unit or in a filter back grille .Locate your return vent, unscrew the cover and check your filter. If it’s dirty, simply replace it. It’s easy and new air filters can be found at almost any home improvement store.
2. Let your AC unit Thaw out
After the power is off to the AC unit .Give your AC unit a few hours to fully defrost.
The second step is to locate your air handler and the frozen coil. Due to possible water leaking from the melting ice we recommend placing some towels or a bucket under the air handler to prevent water damage.
3. Start It up
After allowing a few hours for the AC to defrost, switch your thermostat back to COOL position and turn on your outside breaker . If the air comes out cooler than room temperature, your AC is up and running again.
It’s always smart, however, to call a local AC company, let them know what happened and have someone come out to inspect your unit to prevent this from happening again.

How Do I Change My Air Filter?
Step-By-Step Air Filter Replacement Guide

Your air filters should be changed every 30 - 90 days depending on the type and efficiency of your filter
  • Follow these 4 easy simple steps for do-it-yourself air filter replacement:
  • Step 1: Buy a New Air Filter. Before buying a replacement filter identify the right number or size of your filter – it could also be printed on the side of your existing air filter. Or measure the filter yourself for accurate sizing.
  • Step 2: Turn Off Your AC Unit For safety, turn off your AC unit before attempting to change the furnace filter.
  • Step 3: Remove the Dirty Filter .Most air filters are located at bottom of the indoor air handler unit and should easily pull out of the slot. Although not common, some filters are found in air vents instead located on your ceiling or side wall under the air handler.
  • Step 4: Insert Your New Filter. There are arrows on the new filter ,The arrows should be pointing towards the blower and the filter should slide into place easily.

*Premier Tip: Write the date on the filter so you know exactly when it was changed

Your home air conditioning system consists of various electrical components and mechanical components. Every part in your air conditioning system works together to produce cold air in the summer and warm comfy air in the winter season. It is important to service these parts yearly and inspect the components and Freon. If parts are getting worn out and wires are becoming bare and exposed ,they will be found and fixed during yearly check ups and could help prevent emergency repairs.
Also it is important to check and change your air filter monthly if possible. If you have any questions about your air conditioning system don't hesitate to call text or email us.
